Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (FaMI) of Hanoi University of Science & Technology is well-known as a prestigious institute of postgraduate and graduate training and research in the field of Math and Informatics. The following main task is including:
- Teaching and researching of applied math and informatics
- Conducting the research and cooperation with domestic and foreign training institutes.
- Coordinate with relevant industries, levels and business organizations for math and informatics application in the field of economic sectors, finance, construction and engineering, etc.
The predecessor of Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (FaMI) was the Math Division established in 1956, with the main task for teaching Math all students in University. In the proposal of Professor Ta Quang Buu, the Faculty of Mathematics – Physics was officially established, consisting of three departments: Mathematics, Physics, Theoretical Mechanics.
Currently, the FaMI has more than 70 staff who mostly trained at developed countries with qualified degrees and enthusiastic in work. The School has effective cooperation with many well-known domestic and faculties in the world. In the aim of practical training and create more job opportunities for students, School promotes the good cooperative relationship with many giant enterprises and cooperation such as Viettel, CMC, VPBank, VietinAviva, Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics, etc. Many students with good academic results have been sponsored and selected by enterprise during their studies.
The school also trains bachelor of engineering, and engineers in Math and IT Technology, Management of Information Systems and talented engineers in Math. After graduation, almost students successfully find jobs at banks, financial centers, auditing agencies, IT companies, General Statistic Office, State Planning Commission, Universities, etc. According to many headhunters, our students have considerable advantages with good mathematic and informatics background, creative thinking and qualified self-learning skill who adapt with working environment that requires constantly updating. Most of alumni students have quite high and stable incomes after graduation. Many of them became the core members in their companies and they have chances to study for Master of PhD aboard.
In terms of after graduate training, School offers 02 master’s major i) Applied Mathematics, ii) Mathematic foundations for Informatics, and 5 PhD majors i) Mathematic foundations for Informatics; ii) Analysis, iii) Differential and Integral Equations, iv) Theory of Statistics, v) Applied Mathermatics.
In 2021, according to the ranking of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics was ranked No. 1 in Vietnam and ranked at 351-400 in the world in the Group of Mathematics.
